 ControlDraw Database Functions

ControlDraw has extensive database support so that a Microsoft Access database can be created from your drawings and used to store a considerable amount of extra detail about the objects.

The following are examples of the data that can be stored in the ControlDraw database.

  • Input Output list
  • Control System hardware list
  • Alarm list
  • Equipment list
  • Instrument lists
  • List of Units, Equipment modules and Control modules
  • Lists of recipes, operations, phases etc
  • Set Point list
  • Recipe Formula Values
  • Test Schedules

The database provides user configurable fields for each type of list.

The data can be viewed from within ControlDraw or from Access.

Database Tables

There are three tables in the ControlDraw 1 database, as shown below.

ControlDraw 2 databases have dozens of tables, and adds them if needed as you configure a model:

database control

  • Classes

This table provides a record for each Class of ControlDraw Object including S88 terms such as operation, unit etc and for alarms, instruments etc. This table also defines the field names for the Object and Instances tables

With ControlDraw 2 you can customise the data content of each class of object.

  • Objects

This table stores a record for each Unique type of Object, for example each type of control system input and output, each or type of Control Module or Unit.

  • Instances

This table provides a record for each Instance of a ControlDraw Object - for example Input Output lists, Instrument lists and so on

With ControlDraw 2 you can customise the data content of each object instance.

Queries

Users can of course write their own SQL queries into the ControlDraw database. This can be done within ControlDraw or by using Access's SQL editor.

ControlDraw 2 automatically generates queries for each class of instances and of objects.

Reports

ControlDraw includes database reports accessible from within ControlDraw to produce summaries of the data in a model, for example to count the IO within each process area. In addition some basic reports are provided in Access, and users can of course add their own.
